The oil marketing companies (OMCs) reportedly reduced the fuel prices across the country on August 22 after keeping them unchanged for 35 days, but in Nagaland, there was a marginal rise in prices.

The pump prices of auto fuels were static since July 18, IANS news agency reported.

However, in Nagaland, some districts like Dimapur and Kohima showed a decline in both diesel and petrol prices, while in some other districts such as Tuensang and Kiphire there was a marginal rise.

Records maintained by The Morung Express, based on official IndianOil One app, showed that changes in fuel prices necessarily do not follow the national pattern.

For instance, on August 1, when fuel prices were static for 15 days since July 17, the cost of petrol and diesel fell marginally in Nagaland.

Accordingly, petrol and diesel, which were retailing at the same rates as in July 17 till July 31, when the prices were last revised, saw slight fall in on August 1.

Thereafter, there was couple of slight downward revision of fuel prices in the State, though it remained static in other parts of the country.

A comparison of July 17 and August 22 (See table) highlighted that, during that intervening period, the cost of diesel has fallen across the district with as high as  85 paise in Dimapur to 60 paise in Tuensang.

In the case of petrol, it decreased from Rs 100.36 on July 17 to Rs 100.12 on August 22 in Dimapur while it was a decrease from Rs 101.31 to Rs 101.12 in Kohima.

However, with marginal rises on August 22, three districts – Tuensang, Kiphire and Noklak showed slightly higher petrol prices than on July 17.  In all other districts, the price of petrol was lower.

According to IANS, the August 22 cut came amid declining global crude oil prices

Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as value-added tax (VAT) and freight charges. OMCs revise fuel prices daily benchmarking retail fuel prices and dollar exchange rate.
