Dimapur, January 24 (MExN): Three individuals today alleged that a non-Naga resident of Lahorijan in Assam has been running gambling businesses with a fake permit/license in various parts of Nagaland “under the very nose of the law enforcement agencies.”
“After Longleng district, Naginimora Town etc., the illegal business is still being run at Aghunato Town, Akuluto Town & Zunheboto Town defying or daring the government standing order probably backed by some local goons,” stated a press release from Ngonlem Konyak (NGO), Ngonyei (NGO), and Avit Yeptho, ACAUT Member.
Maintaining that the gambling activities surely tantamount to criminal activities inviting legal actions, it stated, “Unfortunately, the hesitation from the law enforcement agencies to shut down these illegal businesses subsequent to the government ban is unknown.” “However, if these outlets are not shut down and the kingpin arrested immediately, the public may assume that the law enforcement agencies are benefiting from these illegal businesses and ultimately make a mockery of themselves and such government orders,” it added. They further questioned the Government of Nagaland/ Directorate of Nagaland State Lotteries and law enforcers of Zunheboto district “for failing to shut down these illegal business houses and also for their reluctance to book the culprit operating these activities openly without any inferences from the government agencies.”
