One arrested for molestation, attempted murder

Kohima, October 7 (MExN): Kohima Police arrested one person on charges of attempted murder and molestation on October 6. A press release from SDPO (South)/PRO, Kohima Police informed that the accused reportedly dragged the victim to an isolated place while she was returning home and tried to strangulate her. “The girl started screaming for her life and on hearing her screaming, the public from the neighbourhood came to her rescue,” the PRO stated. The accused has been identified as Limhathung (20), presently residing at Kitsubozou colony, Kohima. The police registered a case vide North P.S Case No. 0074/2016 U/S 354 A (2)/307 IPC R/W 18 POCSO Act against him for conducting further investigation.

Meanwhile, on October 7, the Enforcement Officers and Flying Squad Officials of COPTA Kohima comprising of Police and Health and Family Welfare Department conducted surprise checking at the shops located near educational institutes within South Police Station jurisdiction. Altogether, 33 shopkeepers were challaned and a sum of Rs. 6,600/- were imposed against them for selling tobacco products at the vicinity of the educational institutions, the release said. The tobacco products seized from their possession were forwarded to the court of CJM Kohima along with a report, it added.
