One-day workshop on tourist guide and homestay

Kohima, October 20 (MExN): The Department of Tourism organised a one-day training programme on Tourist Guide and Homestay Orientation at Jotsoma Village in collaboration with the Jotsoma Village Council and Jotsoma Nature Conservation and Eco-Tourism (JNCET) on October 18.
The resource persons were officials from the Department of Tourism and Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA). Keneizhakho Nakhro, MLA also graced the occasion with his presence and shared with the participants about the various tourism and conservation efforts taken up by the village.
Zakiebeilie Nakhro, member JNCET also shared with the audience a brief history behind the purpose for the formation of the Jotsoma Nature Conservation and Eco- Tourism (JNCET) in the year 2008 and spoke about the different activities taken up by them.
Director, Tourism Akhale Vizol in her keynote address highlighted upon the significance of tourism as an industry and as a means of creation of livelihood opportunities, varied employment avenues etc. She also spoke about the different aspect and perspective of tourism, promotion of homestays in rural areas, differentiation of rural and urban homestays, and against the harmful effects of plastic etc.
Diana Achumi, Tourist Officer briefly shared upon the importance of housekeeping and proceeded with the hands-on skill demonstration on standard operating procedures for bed-making and basic table set-up.
Veteu Koza, Tourist Officer deliberated on the basic facilities and standard requirement of Homestay and gave a visual illustration of different homestays in Nagaland. She also informed the participants about the registration process.
Resource persons, Nyuretho, Senior Tourist Officer, Zunheboto and Kejaroko Peiru, Vice President, NTA delivered with a powerpoint presentation on tourism prospects and opportunities and techniques for tour guiding respectively. A total of 72 participants took part in the workshop.
