Tragedy struck on the Merapani-Wokha road as a fatal road accident claimed the life of one individual on March 21. According to sources, the deceased identified as Om Prakash Ray, aged 39 years, was returning to Wokha after dropping his relatives at Jorhat when the accident occurred. The deceased is from Gobalbur, Bihar currently residing at Likya Colony, Wokha.
Wokha's Additional SP, Soriso K Quinker, reported that they received information about the tragic accident from villagers of Yikhum who found the dead body during their morning trek to the fields. Upon notification, a team comprising of Officer-in-Charge, Duty Officer, and traffic personnel went to the scene and took stock of the situation.
He also informed that after thorough investigation, no signs of foul play were uncovered and he confirmed that the deceased passed away due to injuries sustained in the accident. It is reported that on completion of all formalities, the body has been released to the family for the completion of final rites.
