One person was killed and nine others sustained serious injuries in a road accident near Lukhuyi junction in Aghunato under Zunheboto district on November 3.
The accident involved a dumper truck reportedly engaged in road maintenance work by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and a Bolero pickup.
A passenger in the dumper truck said the BRO vehicle was en route from Aghunato to Zunheboto on official duty when the accident occurred. The truck, reportedly fully loaded with stone chips, collided with a Bolero pickup carrying pigs for a wedding feast.
Initial eyewitnesses’ reports attributed the accident to overspeeding. The dumper truck driver is said to have died on the spot, while seven other occupants sustained serious injuries.
These details could not be independently confirmed, as police officials, were either unaware of the incident or had not been informed when contacted.
The two men travelling in the Bolero pickup were also seriously injured. All victims were rushed to Hezukhu Memorial District Hospital, Zunheboto, for medical treatment.
The BRO vehicle was reportedly engaged in road maintenance work along the Lukhuyi–Akuba and Bhaimho–Aghunato routes at the time of the accident.
