
Kohima, May 24 (MExN): The Cyber Crime Police Station, Nagaland Police Headquarter (PHQ), on May 18, has arrested one person from Kohima on charges related to child pornography.
The case was brought to the attention of the Nagaland Police by Interpol, Stockholm, through the CBI International Police Co-operation Unit (IPCU).
As per the State DIPR, the accused was found to be involved in Rooms/Groups within the "Wickr app," where members shared and posted explicit child pornography content.
However, the police did not give further details regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, in light of this incident, the Nagaland Police has reiterated that the publication or transmission of obscene or sexually explicit material in electronic form is a criminal offense under the IT Act.
While the Wickr app, similar to WhatsApp, offers end-to-end encryption, that law enforcement agencies can gain access to detect and investigate such illicit activities, it cautioned.
The Nagaland Police further urged the public to promptly report any instances of the circulation of obscene and sexually explicit material on social media platforms or messaging apps to the police department.
This will enable the authorities to take necessary legal action, it added.
