Dume Sub-Council of Zhavame Village comprising of 3 khels namely Krocha, Dukru and Movi observed a significant milestone on December 19 by celebrating 50 years of its existence under the theme, “Revering our past, building tomorrow” at Pame Tsüdu in Zhavame.

Speaking on behalf of K G Kenye, Minister for Power & Parliamentary Affairs, his son, Tekhe Kenye, congratulated the Dume Sub-Council on completing 50 years and also saluted the three khels- Krocha, Dukru and Movi respectively. 

Citing from the Dume Sub-Council Golden Jubilee Souvenir, which he also released as the special guest, he observed that the Sub-Council has tremendously evolved in the last 5 decades. “I pay my respects to the pioneers and past leaders who have made this possible”, he expressed. 

Dwelling on the motto of the Dume Sub-Council, “United we prosper”, he urged that “we must live as one just like our forefathers did” and further asserted that, “we should not be divided by land, family, clan, khel, tribe or geographical boundaries.” 

He called upon the gathering to live by their motto, “United we prosper” even while drawing inspiration from their forefathers and ancestors who lived in unity. 

In his message in the Jubilee Souvenir, K G Kenye, Minister for Power & Parliamentary Affairs also remarked that the momentous occasion marks the realisation of dreams of the founding members, and extended his best wishes and greetings to all the members of the Sub-Council. 

Noting that attaining 50 years of existence is a historic milestone and a time to introspect and retrospect the past achievements, failures and challenges faced by the Council during the course of its journey, he added that, “it is also a time to set higher goals and strive harder to bring all round development to the village community and the society at large.”

Chief Patron of the Golden Jubilee, Sharhünyi Dukru reflected on the past 50 years and shared that members of Dume have progressed in several areas and also saluted the pioneers. 

He asserted that 50 years of growth and progress should not end with the celebration and festivity, but urged that, “our celebration should turn into committed action.” He also dwelt on a few priorities that they must undertake including education especially in this fast paced world of technology. 

He further underlined the need to create better economy while highlighting that farming is now a sought-after profession, which young people can take up. He called upon the gathering to also continue to uphold the values of unity, integrity and honesty.

Highlights of the event included Unveiling of Monolith at Dume Tsüdu by Special Guest, invocation by Rev. Fr. Rozü Anthony Dukru, Parish Priest, Mary Help of Christians Parish, Kohima, welcome note by Ngapunyi Albert Krocha, Convener, Organising Committee, greeting by Zao Krocha, Chairman, Zhavame Village Council, vote of thanks by Ngopi Movi, Treasurer, Organising Committee and closing prayer by Darhü Anthony Dukru, Catechist, Chakhesang Community, SFS Parish Kohima. 

Special performances in the form of folk tune, folk song and Dume Phishi were presented by Dume Women, Dume Youth and Dume Menfolk. 

Deo Movi was the chairperson for the programme while Zhovi Peter Dukru and Muchirhü Krocha were the comperes.

Dume communities from several other villages also attended the programme.
