One killed, another injured by wild elephant in Wokha

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 17 (MExN): One person was killed and another injured by wild elephant (s) in Wokha district on November 16. The incident occurred when the duo were sleeping in a paddy field some 6 kilometers away from Mekokla village under Bhandari sub-division.  

The victims have been identified as late Nchemo Kikon (aged 60 years) hailing from Mekokla village and the injured, one Indra Bahadur (aged 60 years). The incident reportedly took place between 9-9:30 pm at an area called Tchudumo which falls under Mekokla village.  

Deputy Commissioner, Wokha who is also Chairman of Wokha District Disaster Management Authority (WDDMA), Dr.Manzir Jeelani Samoon has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 10, 000 to the injured, a DIPR report stated.  

The amount was handed over by SDO (C) Sanis Ruopfukuotuo Noudi. The Department of Forest also gave Rs 1 lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased.  

District Administration led by SDO (C) Sanis and personnel from Sanis Police Station physically inspected the spot early Saturday morning to make an assessment of the damage. Staff from Forest department led by Wildlife Warden Tokaho Kinimi also visited the spot.
