
KOHIMA, OCTOBER 8 (MExN): The Principal District & Sessions Judge and Special Judge for the POCSO Act, Mezivolu T Therieh convicted Suluneyi Swuro, sentencing him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. He was imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. If the fine is not paid, the convict will face an additional year of simple imprisonment.
According to a press release issued by Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) L. Sashimongla jamir, Swuro was arrested in connection with Kohima Women Police Station Case No. 0003/2020, involving the sexual assault of a minor girl under the age of 12. Additionally, he was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment for the commission of aggravated sexual assault, along with a fine of Rs 1,000. Failure to pay this fine will result in a further six months of simple imprisonment.
The investigation was conducted by UBSI Dziesevino Yhoshu, and the trial was managed by SPP L. Sashimongla Jamir. In her ruling, Judge Therieh also instructed the Kohima District Legal Authority to ensure the victim receives compensation if it has not already been recommended.
