TUENSANG, MAY 29 (MExN): The Special Judge POCSO Tuensang has sentenced one person to 20 years of rigorous prison for the kidnapping and rape of a 5 year old minor girl.
The judgment passed on May 22 by the Special POSCO Judge Longshithung Ezung sentencing the accused, identified as one Berimong Yim for committing offence u/s 376 AB IPC and 6 POCSO Act and to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000; also to undergo 5 years (SI) for committing offence u/s 363 IPC. The period of sentence shall run consecutively, which shall be 25 years in total, the order stated. The prosecution was led by Kenile Kent, Special Public Prosecutor and the Investigation Officer of the case was ASI Chilliam.
The sentencing relates to a case from 2021 when an FIR was lodged by the victim’s mother that her daughter was lured by the accused and sexually assaulted. The accused, who had absconded after the incident, was apprehended by the police in Dimapur.
