One sentenced to 3 years for attempt to murder

PHEK, NOVEMBER 1 (MExN): One person has been sentenced to 3 years for attempt to murder and causing “grievous hurt against his aged mother” in Phek. The accused was also fined Rs 1,000. The judgment was pronounced by the Court of the Sessions Judge, Mezivolu T Therie on November 1. 

A press release from the Public Prosecutor, Phek, Samuel Ritse identified the accused as one Humuzo K Tara, who was accused of “using a machete (dao) for committing grievous hurt and make his mother suffer bodily pain due to the injury.” He was charged under Sections 326 and Section 307 of the IPC for attempt to murder.  

The judgment meanwhile made clear that the period of detention which the accused has already undergone during the trial shall be set off. 

While pronouncing the judgment, the judge held that “the accused at the time of commission of the offence was 29 years old. Being a son who has come of age and should be taking care of his old aged parents, has instead been ill treating his mother not only mentally and financially but physically leading to the present incident.”

The case was investigated by the Investigation Officer, ASI, Neisakhonuo and Samuel Ritse led the prosecution.
