Online training on ‘gender friendly tools and practices’ conducted

Medziphema, August 28 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised two-day online training program on ‘gender friendly tools and practices’ for ATMA functionaries on August 27 and 28.

The training was aimed to create awareness about the health hazards in agriculture and methodologies for mitigation and to know about drudgery and gender friendly farm tools for drudgery reduction of women in agriculture.

Resource persons for the training were Dr Lowrence Kithan, Scientist (Agronomy), AICRP on Pigeon Pea, NU:SASRD, Medziphema Campus and Dr Lamneithem Hangshing, Guest Faculty,  Department of Agricultural Engineering, NU: SASRD, Medziphema Campus. 

Topics on role of gender and issues in agricultural and rural development; common gender friendly tools for sowing and weeding; ergonomics of farm workers and common and gender friendly tools for harvesting and post management were covered.

“On the whole, the training program saw a good turnout of participants from all districts of the state. Feedback was received from all the participant and e-Certificates was forwarded to the participants,” Director SAMETI & Principal IETC i/c Medziphema stated in a press release.
