Dimapur, December 8 (MExN): Allaying fears over recent reports about dengue positive cases in Dimapur, the state unit of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) has clarified that only one positive case was reported out of the eight samples that were tested from January 2020 till date.
This was stated in a press release from the Additional Director, Department of Health and Welfare Dr I Talitemsula Jamir, who is also the State Programme Officer for NVBDCP, on Tuesday. She also stated that dengue positive confirmation is done only through Elisa test which is available only in Dimapur District Hospital and NHAK Kohima.
Dr Jamir stated that the NVBDCP conducts dengue vector study every month in and around Dimapur district and different indices are recorded which refers to the number of dengue mosquito population. As of October and November study in Dimapur, she said that the indices are relatively low, adding that fogging activities and awareness campaigns are also undertaken in vulnerable localities.
The NVBDCP appealed the community/public to take precautions and remove water in all containers like flower pot bases, empty vessels, etc., around the house, because dengue mosquitoes breed in stagnant water and the eggs hatch in a week.
Keep all water filled vessels and tanks tightly covered and remove any rubbish lying around like plastic cups, old containers, etc., and to check around the compound every week, it added.
It also advised all to sleep under mosquito nets during day and night time and give more care to pregnant women and children. Public were also been advised to immediately consult a doctor in case of high fever.
