No college will be allowed to function without sufficient teachers from next semester: ENCSU
Tuensang, May 13 (MExN): The Chemistry and Political Science Department of Sao Chang College, Tuensang is managed by “only one teacher” respectively while computer department does not have a single faculty, a students’ union representing Eastern Nagaland highlighted today.
The other government colleges in the region - Wangkhao, Yingli and Zisaji – are facing the same problem, the Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) stated in a press note issued by its Chairman Longre Chang and Joint Secretary Angth.
The Union said that it is painful to see the students suffering during examination due to non-completion of the syllabus. While these colleges have to run with a single teacher or even without a teacher in some departments, excess teachers are manning the same in other districts, it maintained.
In this regard, reminding the government to address its demands at the earliest, the Union stated that, “It will not allow any colleges within its jurisdiction to function without sufficient teachers from next semester.”
The Union, however, had agreed to give few more days as “verbally requested by the Additional Director” during a meeting with ENCSU officials in the first week of May, it added.
It further acknowledged “prompt action” taken by the concerned authority in posting Principals at Wangkhao College, Mon and Yingli College, Longleng, but expressed regret that they remain mostly absent from duties.
For instance, without a Principal for more than 2 years, ENCSU informed that the recent designated Principal in Yingli College was transferred from Sao Chang College who was “found absent from his bounded duty during our (ENCSU) visit to Sao Chang College reportedly due to poor health.”
The ENCSU, therefore, cannot accept the posting of designated Principal at Yingli College, the Union said urging the Government to make an alternative arrangement at the earliest and post someone who can be “physically and practically present in the college.”
The Union also reaffirmed its demand that the department should take disciplinary action “against the irregular teaching staffs” and the action taken report should be conveyed to ENCSU for “further necessary action in the interest of all concern.”
“If the Department fail to take action against the erring staffs then the ENCSU is prepared to take our own course of action. The department should also cancel all the teachers out at attachment immediately,” it added.
Meanwhile, the ENCSU also reiterated that the New Building of Zisaji Presidency College, Kiphire should be electrified and provided with all the basic necessities before shifting to the new site.
Also acknowledging the provision of a new bus to Zisaji College, the Union however asked the government to sanction the “required buses to all the colleges” as mentioned in its earlier memorandum.
ENCSU further appealed the government to take immediate action in constructing Staff quarter and the border fencing to curb rapid ‘land encroachment.’
“When the citizens of Eastern Nagaland have sacrificed their land for the sake of development and education, the Government and the Department cannot do anything good to the people of the Eastern Nagaland especially when it comes to higher education,” it further noted.
Calling upon the Government and the Department to “deliver justice to the downtrodden people,” the ENCSU pointed out that “Education is a pillar for the society and the state but if we are not provided with the quality education than we can’t hope for any bright future.”
