Kahuto Chishi Sumi,
Dimapur
Dear GOD,
I hope this epistle finds YOU in the pink of health as it leaves me here. I know I have been very remiss in not communicating with YOU more frequently, so I felt it necessary to write YOU just to keep YOU updated (not that YOU are not aware of them)on some of our problems.
Along with the usual problems of death, diseases, unemployment, poverty etc. etc. we Nagas are facing a unique set of problems, the first of which pertains to asking YOU to grant us a solution to our political problems, based on a framework agreement signed by some of our "leaders" with the Government of India; the contents of which are unknown to me and many of my Naga brothers. Now, Lord, YOU know all about it, and it must be good for some people, but what I want YOU to tell me is “Is it good for all of us?” Because, Lord, YOU, in your infinite wisdom, have granted us "leaders" with wisdom and intellectual capabilities not seen since the days of Solomon(YOU remember, David’s son) and their solutions are beyond the grasp of simple mortals like me. It must remind YOU of the time when YOU revealed the Theory of Relativity to Albert Einstien and it was reported that only three people in the world could understand it. But Lord, YOU know what a Doubting Thomas I am, and I have, since childhood, been taught always to pray for what I knew I needed and wanted and since I don't know the contents of the agreement, I'm afraid to ask YOU to grant me something which I don't know whether I'll need or want. As it is , I know I ask too much of YOU,so, Lord please don't mind if my voice is not heard among the voices of my Naga brothers in that prayer.
The second dilemma I am facing is the cry sent out by YOUR representatives here on earth for voters not to take money for their electoral votes. Lord, YOU know me and YOU know that I have never taken one paisa, nor asked for one favour, for any of the votes I have cast in the life which YOU have so graciously granted me, furthermore, YOU know how disgusted I am by this practice. But I feel that YOU will agree with me when I say that they are putting the cart before the horse. Because YOU know that the money spent by our aspiring "leaders" for their elections is the very money that was meant for the voter in the first place. Wasn't the money meant to buy food for the starving widows and orphans, medicines for the sick and elderly, salaries for the honest worker so that he could provide for his wife and children, good roads, drainage and regular electricity so that people could live in a modicum of comfort? It is not my place to ask YOU to do anything but I wish YOU would tell those people who claim to speak with YOU through their visions and prophesies that it would be simpler to ask our "leaders" not to take the money meant for the people in the first place. If YOUR representatives on earth can accomplish that, our "leaders" seeking election will have no money to spend buying votes and the voters will have no need to sell their votes; for they will have money to eat, money to buy medicines and money to look after their families.
So, Lord, I come to the end of my letter with the hope that YOU will accept my sincerest apologies for not joining my Naga brothers in the prayer for the "solution" and the belief that you will speak to your representatives on earth on the issue of votes for money.May I always find Grace and Favour in YOUR EYES, I remain, as always.
