Sirhima, November 5 (MExN): The Open Volleyball Tournament organised by Kuki Baptist Youth Endeavour, Sirhima began on November 5. 

The inaugural function began at 10:30 am on November 5 at Sirhima Playground and was compered by Themneilhing and Chongboi, while Pastor Lhunlam pronounced the invocation. 

A press release from Thejangukho Yalietsu, Media Secretary, NDPP 5 Ghaspani-II A/C, informed that 

Zhaleo Rio, IAS (Retd), Advisor, Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs was the special guest. 

Speaking at the inaugural function, he lauded the elaborate arrangements and all the 40 teams who are participating in the tournament. Rio however, rued the lack of following SoPs and requested concerned village authorities to take all precautionary measures during such a mega event. 

"At a time when people are all aware of the prevailing condition due to Covid-19 but negligent in following guidelines, let us be responsible sportspersons, spectators, leaders, villagers, etc. and show that we can observe necessary protocols even during this tournament," he advised. 

While extending his best wishes to the teams from different districts, Rio opined that the tournament should also be a time to know each other and develop affinity. He acknowledged that Kukis are gifted in sports and music and as such, urged them as well as all sportspersons to vie for excellence, till they can "represent our people at highest level in their respective disciplines." 

Other highlights included greetings by Paominthang, cultural dance by KBYE, special song by Lengginlal, a speech by Rev David Vaiphei, KBAYD Secretary, words of appreciation by Seibem, Organising Committee Convenor and benedictory prayer by Rev. Tongpu, Executive Secretary, KBAN.
