‘Operation Bluebird’: NPMHR (South) for dispensing of justice for all victims

Senapati, July 11 (MExN): The Naga Peoples' Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), South has urged the Government of India (GoI) to ‘come clean’ by ‘dispensing Justice for all victims of Operation Bluebird,’

Joyson Mazamo, Convenor, NPMHR (South), stated this while delivering the keynote address at a function held to observe the 34th anniversary of “Operation Bluebird”  on July 9 at Kathikho Karong, Senapati, Manipur on July 9.

While paying tribute to victims as well as living victims who are still traumatise “mentally and physically infirm,” the NPMHR (South) also urged the GoI to repeal AFSPA and scrap Protected Area Permit Regime.

In addition, it called for restoring peace and dignity in Nagas Land.

Meanwhile, Mazamo, in his address, asserted that “to stand up and say no to intrusion into our land and oppression is the ultimate choice the Naga forefather made.”

“{Despite knowing its possible perilous consequences, they understand very well it is the best and onlyoption a people can chose if they were to secure their way of life; a dignified one, he said.

He also noted the “oppressor” had failed to understand the Nagas miserably and continue polices to “disenfranchise our spirited movement.”

The continuous imposition of  Armed Forces (Special Powers)Act (AFSPA) 1958 that “rob off any Naga human rights” was cited as an example.

What happened in the aftermath of July 9, 1987 “Operation Bluebird” is the continued pursuance of the ill motivated policy, the Convenor added.

He further noted that 27 persons were killed during the operation while many more were “tortured and were denied medical attention as a result of which many died shortly afterward.”

“Many other unimaginable form of both covert and overt human rights violation continue for 4 months. NPMHR with the support of many like minded organisations took the matter to court for remedy and justice only to be denied the same even today,” he said.
Mazamo, however, stated that it will relentlessly voice out against the same.

Accordingly, he called for justice for all victims as well as repealing the aforesaid Act.
