Wokha, August 6 (MExN): Wokha based Team Metamorphosis has informed that since its inception 13 years ago it has initiated several programmes, few of which continues till today.
The prominent among them is Operation Clean Wokha or OCW. It targets to make Wokha clean not only on the outside, but cultivate and develop change in the mindset of the citizens, stated a press release from Thungdemo Kyong, President, Team Metamorphosis. The project started on April 25, 2016 - World Malaria Day.
Project OCW, according to the release, has opened a platform for all the 28 colonies and about 30 institutions of Wokha Town to compete with each other through various activities such as “being the cleanest, most peaceful, being vigilant in protecting public properties, being helpful to others through blood donation, preservation and promotion of the ecology etc.” A community focused and community based project, OCW will carry on for four to five years with an ultimate target that the community cultivates and develops a sense of responsibility to keep their surroundings and minds clean, strong and healthy “through which we will in return enjoy better and sufficient water, better roads/ footpaths, fresher air, peaceful neighborhood, better electricity etc.”
Team Metamorphosis with contributions from well wishers has already given away cash awards of Rs 48,000, certificates and a running trophy to the best colonies and institutions once. The release said that through Operation Clean Wokha, many colonies now have proper waste disposals, adopted proper and judicious usage of electricity, initiated tree plantation etc.
The Team has in the past 12 years also sponsored students in their education, sponsored a laptop, educational tours, conducted career guidance, cultural and skill developmental programs in association with other organizations, it added. The organization in collaboration with others also started the database Blood Donors Club, where blood donation is not only mobilized but some of the members have even donated blood several times. It has also taken four MSW students for their winter placement.
The Team’s upcoming activities are skill development programmes for youth, women groups etc in the field of detergent making, food preservation, electrification, carpentry, live sound system engineering, photography etc. The Team is driven by its theme “To Serve is True Greatness,” the release stated.
