‘Operation of legal system should promote justice’

Tuensang, September 29 (MExN): Mega Legal Services Camp was held at local ground Tuensang Town was inaugurated by Justice Michael Zothankhuma, Judge Gauhati High Court on September 29.  

The Mega Legal Services Camp was organized by the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) and Tuensang District Legal Services Authority (TDLSA) with Government departments, stakeholders and NGOs at Tuensang.  

Delivering the inaugural address, Justice Michael Zothankhuma said that the objective of the legal services authority is to secure legal rights of the poor, downtrodden and weaker sections of the society. He said that legal services authority also ensure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on the basis of equal opportunity and now the objective have expanded from awareness to empowerment.  

Justice Michael Zothankhuma said that the focus is to make government schemes; policies and law reach the doorsteps of the people as intended by the government. He pointed out that as the objective of the camp is to create opportunities for the poor and downtrodden, the government and stakeholders should try to understand and empathize with the poor and needy. He said that the media also has a responsibility in creating awareness and educating the masses. He also stressed on the importance of giving more awareness on the central sponsored schemes.  

Delivering short speech, L. Jamithung Lotha, Deputy Commissioner Tuensang said that the primary role of the government department is to give service to the public and benefits of the schemes should reach to the last. He also said that for delivery of services suggestions are welcome from all.  

Pointing out that the Indian Government has various schemes for the benefit and development of the poor people, the Deputy Commissioner said that therefore all departments have set up stalls in the Mega Legal Services Camp to create awareness about the various welfare schemes to the beneficiaries. He also urged the government departments to give service to the people and as a service provider to re strengthen the commitment to provide service to the people.  

He further urged the beneficiaries to avail the various welfare schemes and thanked the NSLSA for organizing the camp for the people of Tuensang.  

Delivering the keynote address, Mezivolu T Therieh, NJS Member Secretary appraised that so far such Mega Legal Services Camp have been successfully completed in 5 districts- Longleng, Peren, Phek, Mokokchung and Mon. she informed that mini camps with Labour department was conducted at Noklak and Shamator on September 27 and 20 for the construction workers.  

She assured that the Tuensang DLSA is there to provide all assistance even after the camp is over through the front office at district court complex with the assistance of the Panel Lawyers and the Para-Legal Volunteers.  

Welcome address was delivered by Nokshei Kano, NJS, Chief Judicial Magistrate Tuensang & Secretary TDLSA vote of thanks by Limasenla Longkumer, Project Coordinator NSLSA. The programme was chaired by Victo Sema, NJS, Principal District & Sessions Judge Tuensang and Chairman TDLSA.  

A total of 5440 people visited and benefited from the day long camp through more than 40 stalls set up by government departments, stakeholders and NGOs.  

Meanwhile, the High Court Judge also inaugurated Legal Literacy Clubs for Eklavya Model Residential School and 3rd NAP High School at Tuensang town on September 28.
