KOHIMA, MAY 22 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee today reiterated its commitment to the people of Nagaland and to “always carry out the bounden duty of a responsible political party to serve and meet the aspirations of the people in the days ahead.” This was resolved in a meeting of the NPCC at Congress Bhavan, Kohima.
A press note from the NPCC General Secretary, Vaprumu Demo stated that the meeting resolved to stand by the ideal and principle of the INC, which it said has “withstood the test of time in allowing secular and inclusive growth of all people irrespective of religion, caste, religion, region etc.” It further envisaged that the present electoral defeat for the Congress at the Center after a decade in power “presents an excellent opportunity for the party to re-introspect and change itself in tune with the aspirations of the people.” The NPCC called upon every Congress men and women of the state to rededicate oneself towards the ideal and principle of the INC and place the interest of the party above all other interest.
The NPCC extended its appreciation to party rank and file at different levels who had worked during the recently concluded Parliamentary Election to 16 Lok Sabha. It expressed gratitude to all party supporters who remained steadfast in their commitment in support of the INC Candidate, KV Pusa
The NPCC further condemned what it termed as the “callous statement of the outgoing CM and MP elect Neiphiu Rio made before the BJP led NDA Parliamentary Meeting held in Central Hall on May 20.” “The very statement made by the Hon’ble MP that Nagaland and Northeastern state are a liability and not a contributor to the country is a complete reverse of what he has been proclaiming for the past 11 years and actually for which he got elected. For the sake of a ministerial berth the MP did not hesitate to sell the Naga identity at the first opportunity given to him,” the NPCC alleged.
It added that the NPCC further holds Neiphiu Rio and the NPF government “fully responsible and accountable for the present state of huge liabilities incurred by the state during the last 11 years, despite the generosity of Congress UPA Govt for the past ten years through various central flagship schemes that were sanctioned irrespective of political party ruling the state.”
