KOHIMA, AUG 20 (MExN): The Opposition Congress today staged a walk out on the third day of the assembly session expressing unhappiness over the reply made by Home Minister Thenucho on discussions relating to the law and order situation in Nagaland.
When Thenucho was replying, the Opposition Leader I. Imkong alleged that the Minister had violated Rule 55 of the Assembly proceeding by making controversial remarks and allegations against the Opposition rather than concentrating on the main issue.
The Opposition Congress alleged that there was complete lawlessness in the State with spurt in incidence of factional clashes, extortion, rape, and harassment of civilians.
“With the ongoing ceasefire between the Government of India and NSCN, Nagaland should have been a land of peace or Island of peace. However, killings have increased among the factions destroying peace and tranquility in the State”, Congress MLA Chingwang Konyak said.
The former Lok Sabha MP said that villagers had now started to feel that ceasefire meant the granting of open license to the undergrounds to move freely with arms and uniforms and alleged that the State administration remained a silent spectator. He demanded that the government wake up from its slumber and enforce the rule of law by punishing the violators. “We cannot allow this lawlessness to continue”, he added.
Congress MLA Supongmeren asked the government to stop the gun license racket and to punish the guilty officials involved in the racket. Imkong demanded a CBI probe into the whole issue of gun license racket.
