DIMAPUR, June 2 (MExN): A seminar on Oral Health Care and the Ill Effects of Tobacco Usage was held for parents and guardians of Grace Academy School, Thahekhu village, on June 2. The event, organized under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Dimapur, marked the first of its kind aimed specifically at parents and guardians within the area.
The resource person for the seminar, NTCP Psychologist Imkumla Aier, highlighted the critical importance of oral hygiene and the serious health risks associated with tobacco use. Following the awareness session, a consultation on oral health care was conducted for the students, alongside an oral cancer screening for the adult participants.
Out of the 45 parents and guardians who volunteered for screening, one case of pre-cancerous lesion was detected, underscoring the importance of early detection and awareness.
The medical team included Dr. N. Moa Jamir, District Nodal Officer (NTCP) Dimapur, Dr. Sanen Longkumer, Dr. Khriesi Sogotsi, and three supporting medical personnel.
