
Dimapur, January 3: Christian Higher Secondary School (CHSS) fraternity has expressed deep shock and sadness at the sudden demise of one of its students, Akivito Sumi of class 10, on December 30. In a press statement appended by the School vice principal Gebu Haralu, the fraternity expressed “anger and utter disgust” at the “extremely callous and wantonly brutal murder in which the young life was easily snuff out, just outside the gates of his own school – a child’s sanctuary of safety and security.” CHSS fraternity further decried the fact that the culprit responsible is still at large “after committing such a dehumanizing act.” The fraternity called for all right thinking citizens to condemn such act and ensure that such incidents have no place in the society. It also appealed to all right thinking citizens to introspect on where “our” society is heading.
Western Sumi Totimi Hoho has also strongly condemned the brutal attack on late Akivito A. Swu by a group of youth at Church Road on December 28 last, who succumbed to his injuries in a hospital in Guwahati. In a statement, WSTH president, Ahimsa K. Zhimo and general secretary, Jolly K. Aomi stated the manner in which late Akivito was attacked was beyond human imagination. “It is saddening to note that such incidents of barbarism have become a regular happening in a Christian society like ours where it is not safe even for children to go out of their home,” WSTH said. Asserting that all peace-loving citizens should voice out to eradicate such kind of lawlessness from the land, WSTH appealed to law enforcing agency to put its best effort in its investigation and arrest the culprits at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Tenyimi Students’ Union Dimapur (TSUD) also expressed strong resentment and condemnation over the incident. TSUD President Jenpu Rongmei and Secretary Games & Sports Azo Wetsah in a note urged the district administration and Police Department to immediately arrest the culprits and award non- bailable warrant and befitting punishment. TSUD expressed its deepest condolence to the bereaved family and friends of the deceased.
Tangkhul Hoho Nagaland (THN) also condemned the attack on late Akivito A Swu. Expressing shock to note that such barbaric incidents have become a regular feature of the day, the THN appealed the police to trace the culprits involved and initiate actions deemed fit. It also prayed for solace of bereaved family members.
Youth Association of Nagaland (YAN) also vehemently condemned the fatal assault on Akivito A. Sumi. YAN president Hetoi said, “Perpetrators of such barbaric act, who cannot have mercy even on lives of minors and commit most gruesome of crimes to serve their selfish interest do not deserve to be called humans.” YAN expected that the police and administration prove its efficiency once again by hunting down the culprits and give justice to the family that lost an innocent life.
Ao Students' Union Dimapur (ASUD) also strongly condemned the brutal attack on late Akivito A. Sumi. The union appealed the authority concerned to take the matter seriously and deliver justice by speedy investigation, while urging to award befitting punishment to the criminals involved. The union further expressed its deep condolences to the bereaved family.

The Lizumi Union, Dimapur; Kulolau Khukishe Ghami, Dimapur and the Khetoi Village Union, Dimapur have written to the Dimapur Deputy Commissioner demanding justice for late Akivito A Sumi, who was the victim of an assault on December 28 in Dimapur. A joint memorandum to the DC demanded the immediate arrest of the other accomplices and that no bail be given to the “arrested /accused and his accomplices.” It appealed for the legal fraternity of Nagaland and the Dimapur Bar Association to “abstain from entertaining the instant case.” The memo further demanded that the culprits be awarded capital punishment.
