Orgs condemn March 22 knife-attack incident

DIMAPUR, MARCH 23 (MExN): Condemnation has poured in from different organisations over the March 22 incident where a 22-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed in broad daylight by a man now identified as Abdul Majid at Nyamo Lotha Road in Dimapur.

Condemning the incident, the Chümoukedima District Gorkha Union said it was distressed to know about the “brutal attempt to murder” in broad daylight. While maintaining that the Gorkha community love peace and has always lived in harmony with its neighbours, it has requested the law enforcement authority to apprehend the perpetrator of the crime and be brought to justice immediately.

The Gorkha Students’ Union Chümoukedima District (GSUCD) said such “inhumane act wrongly intended to provoke the peace-loving Gorkha people of Nagaland.”

“Such barbaric acts have no place in civilized society. We urged law enforcement agencies and the government to spare no effort in apprehending the perpetrator and ensure he receive appropriate punishment,” a condemnation note stated. 

The Mech Kachari Public Organization (MKPO), Nagaland said such heinous act of violence has no place in the society, and urged the law enforcement officials to conduct a swift and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice. 

It also clarified that the victim is from Gorkha community and not from Mech Kachari community.  Stating that the victim did not deserve to be subjected to such an unimaginable act of violence, the MKPO termed the attack not only an assault but also a threat on the safety and well-being of our entire society. 

The Hindu Seva Samiti, Dimapur (HSSD) said the appalling incident has shaken the conscience of every citizen residing in Dimapur and adjoining states. It stated that such acts of violence have no place in the society and every individual deserves to live and work in a safe environment without fear of such horrific incidents. 

At the same time, the HSSD has called upon the authorities to ensure that justice is served swiftly and that the perpetrator is held accountable for his actions to the fullest extent of the law. It also appreciated the humane gesture shown towards the victim by the nearby shop by taking her immediately to t he hospital.
