DIMAPUR, MARCH 24 (MExN): Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation, ACAUT Nagaland, and East Dimapur Business Association on Saturday condemned the recent two shooting incidents which occurred within a span of 24 hours in Dimapur. The victims Joy Chandra and Rekha Das were both shot and injured in relation to extortion and taxation, a joint statement from the four organizations stated, adding the long spell of peace in Dimapur has been muddied by the two incidents.
Warning the perpetrators that they should not test the public sentiments by terrorizing the innocent public and business community, the organizations have demanded that the law enforcing agencies immediately arrest the culprits and give exemplary punishment.
It also maintained that with the up-gradation of Police Commissionerate, the public had reposed their faith in the agency hoping for peace and tranquillity in Dimapur, however, the two incidents indicate that many areas and loopholes in policing are yet to be strengthened.
Pointing out that with the beginning of the new financial year, illegal tax collection and harassment on the public and business community has increased, they appealed the police to take sufficient step by deploying adequate police personnel in civilian cloth in various sensitive and market areas, disseminate dedicated helpline numbers to all business establishments and public, and deploy sufficient quick response and patrolling team to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
