An orientation on latest school culture was organised by School Leadership Academy, (SLA), SIEMAT, SCERT, Nagaland at Government Middle School (GMS) for Children with Special Needs, Lerie on May 18.
Speaking on leading partnership Reader, SCERT, Benjung Yaden said, it was not only classroom learning in schools that plays major role in quality educating but the active role of parents in facilitating their education. She observed that children perform well and are easy to identify any problem if parents monitor their children properly.
Yaden also spoke about 21st Century Classroom to the teachers, lamented that government school teachers can finish the syllabus or the whole textbook in one year. She asked to focus on the process of learning by taking textbook as a tool and not as content, fostering creativity and holistic progress card.
Roseline Richa, Reader, SCERT, while dwelling on paradigm shift in assessment said, earlier, it was examination which today instead is called assessment of students which is based on the overall performance of a student.
Richa said, today, it was not about memorising lessons but assessment on how far the child has been able to understand, question and problem solving. For instance, in numeracy at the foundational stage, it was assessed in such a way that if the child is able to count, it can be assumed that they can add or if they are able to classify, they can multiply. Therefore, making sure the goal is achieved, and that the subject is utilised to its value is the core of the educational system today.
She also presented on planning and organizing learning spaces.
Izeule Ramlia, SLA Faculty, spoke on NEP 2020. She said NEP 2020 requires that it should be goal oriented where at different stage of their education, the curriculum structures are different. She also spoke about the challenges in executing the new curriculum stage. Physical exploration, experiences without relying more on textbook were in focus.
Earlier, the welcome and introduction was delivered by Head Teacher Kedivi Mekro. The programme was attended by over 60 parents, 16 teachers and panchayat members. The sessions were divided for parents and teachers separately.
