
Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): Focusing attention on the much neglected and often ignored segment of society, the Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) in collaboration with Disabled People Organization, Dimapur (DPOD) held a day long orientation programme on the rights of the physically and mentally disabled people in the State at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall here on July 1.
The keynote address was delivered by K. Ela, Director, Prodigals’ Home, informed a press release. The provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 were highlighted by Esther K. Aye, while Limasenla Longkumer extensively dealt on the provisions of the newly legislated Mental Healthcare Act, 2017.
A lively and productive interaction session followed where the ways and means of implementing the said legislations were discussed threadbare with the resource persons who are both Legal Aid Counsels with the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority, the release added.
The programme ended on a hopeful note that the State government will be duly sensitized on the needs of the disabled and implement the provisions of the law in letter and spirit, according to the press release.
