If God spares one life according to their good deeds, our beloved father would have lived an immortal life, eulogized a speaker at the funeral service of Late Yashitsungba Ao here at State Stadium Dimapur on April 4.
This was the also common refrain that emerged as people from all walks of life gathered to pay their last respect to the pioneering businessman, philanthropist, and social worker.
Besides being a pioneering Naga businessman, Late Yashitsungba or Y Ao to many (April 15, 1927- April 3, 2018) was better known as a selfless soul with an acute ‘weakness’ for generosity and to help those in need. He died on April 3, just few days away from his 91st birthday.
Late Yashitsungba was 24/7 generous and protector of whole community and will be rich even in the netherworld, another speaker noted.
“We are pained and stunned to accept this as a reality - the departure of our guardian,” a member of Dimapur Sungratsü Union stated. Asserting that the departed figure lived not for his own gain but for the well being of the Nagas and beyond, he said Late Yashitsungba deserve a ‘Nobel prize for generosity.’
The volume of the deeds he left behind will speak for itself, he added.
Orphaned at a very young age, Late Yashitsungba studied till class 6 in his village Sungratsü before going to study in class 7 at Impur.
In the middle of the year, however, an unfortunate fire incident throw a spanner to his schooling plan as the little possession he had literally gone up in smoke.
His early life was filled with struggles.
He used to cow herd before schooling but became a daily wage earner thereafter as means of livelihood.
Out of the small savings, he soon became a contractor, the pastor of Sungratsü village narrated while giving a brief history on the life of Late Yashitsungba.
He was a “humble rich man with a burning heart for poor, the churches, organisation and so on. Above all, he was a kind-hearted person who never sends anyone empty-handed,” another speaker extolled.
According to information shared by the deceased’s family, Late Yashitsungba started as a businessman in the 60s and later went on to become a prominent businessman. Among others, he was serving as the Chairman of Zion Hospital and Research Centre Dimapur and Eden Medical Centre Dimapur.
The public funeral programme at State Stadium Dimapur on April 4 was led by Rev. Lima Jamir, the Associate Pastor of Dimapur Ao Baptist Church (DABA), while the message was delivered Rev. Dr. N Tzudir, Pastor DABA.
Condolence messages from various individuals, organizations including the Governor of Nagaland were also read and delivered at the funeral.
Later the mortal remains of Late Yashitsungba were laid to rest at Naga Cemetery, Dimapur.
