Oting VC refutes AR's claim as ‘baseless and fabricated’

Alleges faulty propaganda, torture by security forces

Dimapur, April 15 (MExN): The Village Council Oting has strongly refuted a claim made by the Assam Rifles in the media that 2 NSCN (K) cadres from the village were arrested by the security forces.

The AR in a press note had claimed that two NSCN (K) cadres were arrested from Tizit area under Mon District and handed over to Tizit Police Station on 10 April.

The report is “totally baseless and fabricated,” Village Council Oting Chairman Hamwang Konyak stated in a press note received here.

According to the press note, both Nyanei Konyak and Lemnyei Konyak, who were apprehended in the wee hours by 35 Assam Rifles on April 9, were “innocent public and a bonafide citizen of the village.”

The alleged accusations on the boys was “faulty propaganda cooked up by security forces, ” it said adding that press release made by 35 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) were “all baseless.”

“The village council absolutely claims that arrested boys were mere public who does not have any relations to any underground factions at present and the money found along with the boys belonged to women society group, meant for church building construction at Oting,” it added.

The Village Council further maintained that boys were forcefully pick-up from their residents without ascertaining any facts and “physically and mentally” tortured in the Assam Rifles camp in Tizit.

Condemning the “barbaric acts and high handedness” of 35 Assam Rifles personals posted at Tizit, the Village Council said that, “such autocratic acts should be condemn by one and all.”

It further lamented that while the security forces were supposed to protect the innocent public, they were rather “torturing the innocent boys in their camp.”

In this connection, the village council also asked AR high command to go after “real extremist” rather than “harassing and torturing the innocent publics, and stop creating fear-psychosis in the minds of the public.”
