The 29th Spero Meliora 2023 took place today at Kohima Village Council Hall under the theme “Break the Ice and Steal a March.” This event was jointly organized by Kohima Village Students Union (KVSU) and Dolphin Club Kohima.
Gracing the occasion, Commissioner & Secretary to Chief Minister and Works & Housing Kesonyii Yhome said that “our language is the carrier of our culture and tradition, and without it, we risk losing our unique way of life.”
It is through our language that we communicate our customs, values, and stories from one generation to the next, he added.
We must also encourage the younger generation to take an active interest in their roots and instil in them a sense of pride for their language and heritage, Yhome said adding “By doing so, we can ensure that our forefathers' traditions and culture continue to thrive for generations to come.
He also called upon the people to come together and work towards safeguarding “our cultural heritage and promoting a positive lifestyle in our society.” He further urged for unity and cooperation, stating that by coming together as a society, the people can aim for greater development and progress.
