Outcry against abduction of minor school girl

DIMAPUR, APRIL 13 (MExN): The All Zeliangrong Student’s Union, Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) and the Zeliangrong Student’s Union Manipur have stated that the prolong captivity of Alice Kamei by RPF/PLA since March 10 coupled with inaction by the State and Central Government has “compelled the people to launch a strong and intense third phase public democratic demonstration against the prolonged captivity.”

A joint statement by the unions has stated that the public has already demonstrated different form of agitations demanding the RPF/PLA release the minor school girl. It added that the minor school girl is physically weak as she is suffering from acute eye sight or vision impairment.  As per family sources the minor school girl is also under medication with routine and timely health checkups to determine her health status. It therefore stated that any “unpredicted situation or unfortunate consequences” on the girl due to deprivation of her required regular health check up shall be borne by the RPF/PLA.

The statement read that this is not the first time that underground organizations have attempted to recruit minor children but added that children taken away in earlier instances were all released unharmed following objection raised by public. However, Alice Kamei has still been held captive by RPF/PLA in total contravention to international law, it added.

It informed that the RPF/PLA’s claim that Alice has attained 16 years of age is in contradiction to what her parents say. Her parents assert that she is only 14 years old.

The statement also acknowledged the support and co-operation extended by different civil organizations and every right thinking people. It further expressed appreciation for their impartial and unbiased reasoning ability at this critical juncture. It also appealed to all right thinking people to stand in unison to save the life of the girl.  It called for the people to send out a message to all armed groups not to misuse children in compliance with international law.
