Over 300 benefit from health mela at Zhuikhu

Dimapur, April 13 (MExN): The Department of Health & Family Welfare, Dimapur under the aegis of National Health Mission successfully conducted a health mela at Zhuikhu village under Dimapur District on April 12.  

A press release stated here that during the health mela, specialist doctors came from various health programmes such as Universal Immunization Programme, National Leprosy Eradication Program, and National Programme for Control of Blindness, Revised National TB Control Program, National Vector Borne Disease Control Program, AYUSH, DAPCU, Non-Communicable Diseases, General Medical Officers and Lab.  

Technicians were available to examine the patients and for testing. Tubectomy as Family Planning service was also performed. Blood testing for Malaria and HIV/AIDS and sputum samples were collected and blood sugar testing was done. A street play on the importance of ANC was also performed by ASHAs.  

A total of 304 patients availed the services provided during the health mela where five patients underwent Lap Ligation and 10 had CuT INSERT IGNOREion. Interpersonal Communication on Safe motherhood, Immunization, ANC, Leprosy, TB and Iodine Deficiency were also carried out. IEC materials were also distributed. Free medicines were also distributed and compensations were also given to those beneficiaries opting for permanent and temporary methods of Family Planning. Nutrition packs were also distributed to pregnant mothers and to mothers with fully immunized children.  

The health mela was inaugurated by Dr. Vikato Kinimi, CMO. During the brief inaugural function, He urged the public to avail the medical facilities which were brought to their door steps. The GB of Zhuikhu Village, SG Hollo while appreciating and expressing his gratitude to the department for organizing the health mela in their village, also requested for major repair and renovation of the PHC building and the staff quarters. He further requested the department to provide laboratory equipments and manpower so that the poor villagers need not have to travel to town for such tests. The function was chaired by Dr. Valentina and invocation was led by Pastor Hekheshe.
