‘Over 50000 non-Nagas earned a total of Rs. 475 cr’

Kohima, September 17 (MExN): Over 50,000 non Nagas in Nagaland – almost 3% of Nagaland’s population, had a total income of approximately Rs. 475 crores, stated Er. Levi Rengma, Parliamentary Secretary PWD (H) citing a survey report of 2013.   He was speaking on the occasion of the 22nd Fresher’s Meet of Tesophenyu Group Students’ Union, Kohima on September 17, in Kohima.

Reacting to complaints that most educated Naga youths are unemployed, Er. Levi cited the survey report according to which approximately 45,815 non-Nagas employed in Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung districts, and above 50,000 all over Nagaland, had a total income of approximately Rs. 475 crores.

Breaking down the numbers further, the Parliamentary Secretary explained that the earnings meant an income of over Rs. 20,000 per month, which, he stated, was “higher” than the earnings of many Government employees.

Terming the complaints of unemployment a “myth”, Er. Levi insisted that the present 21st century is a challenging world which is also full of opportunities for those who are hardworking, sincere, dedicated, honest and above all disciplined and persistent. For the lazy, dishonest and in-disciplined, this world is going to be cruel and you will find your life very frustrating, he cautioned.

Mentioning the Nagas’ obsession for Government jobs, Er. Levi maintained that no Government in the world can give employment to all educated population of the country.

Towards this, the Parliamentary Secretary urged the educated populace and the intellectual group of society to come up with “self entrepreneurship” and thus contribute towards economic development to help fellow citizens who are less educated.

Er. Levi also urged parents to be responsible, honest and sincere. “Children will learn good or bad things at home first,” he pointed out.

Exhorting the freshers, he encouraged them to live with sincerity and integrity and contribute in some way to society. He further advised the students not to give in to peer pressure in trying “to be something that you are not”. “Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown your own inner voice and most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”
