Imphal | September 20
Around 600 families have been affected by flood Kakching district of Manipur. According to deputy commissioner of the district, Neilenthang Telienna, around 600 600 families are now taking shelter at various relief camps in the district.
Incessant rains in the past few days have affected life adversely in Kakching and Chandel districts. Under construction Chakpi bridge was damaged yesterday by the flooding Chakpi river.
Meanwhile, the administration of Kakching district has taken up all possible measures to address the calamity. A team led by deputy commissioner Neilenthang Telienna inspected the flood affected areas and provided relief materials to the victims this afternoon. Neilenthang said that about 20-30 houses of Serou village have been washed away by the flood yesterday. The district administration with the other concerned departments including that of Agriculture and Fishery departments have started taking measures in the affected areas.
Serou, Sugnu, Khaobuk, Wapokpi, Tangjeng, Khongyam, Nungoo, Chairel, Pangantabi and Kakching Khunou are some of the places which have been severely affected by the flood in Sugnu assembly constituency. In Wabagai assembly constituency those places which are affected by the flood are Keirak,Wabagai, Thingel Leikai,Wabagai Tera Urak,Kakching Kendrada Kakching Chumnang Leikai,Kakching Wairi,Hiyanglam and Lamjao.
According to the district administration of Kakching, as many 19 relief camps have been opened of which 7 are in Sugnu, 3 each in Serou and Chairel while the rest are in Wapokpi,Tangjeng Khunjao,Kakching Chumnangda and Keirak. More relief camps will be opened if the need arises, according to the district administration
.
In Chandel district, a portion of the under construction Chakpikarong RCC bridge across Chakpi river in Chakpikarong was damaged yesterday creating panic among the people. The damage of the bridge has left the people cut off from the rest of the state. As Chakpi river water volume increased due to incessant rains in the past two days, the flooding water carried away a portion of the bridge this afternoon. It may be mentioned that the same bride was damage in the flash flood of 2015 and the construction of the same was underway.
Meanwhile, it was reported flash floods in Unopat and Thungcheng villages of Chandel district have also inundated large portion of paddy fields. Inter village roads have also been blocked in several places due to landslides.
Landslides which have occurred between Wangkhera -Unopat, Topkpaching-Unopat villages have blocked movement of vehicles, sources said. Similar landslides are also reported from Beru to Wangkhera road and Maribung village.
