Over two lakh children to be administered polio drops

Kohima, February 20 (MExN): The 2nd round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization Programme in Nagaland for the year 2014 will be held on Sunday, February 23. As in the 1st phase IPPI that was held on January 19 2014, the Department of Health & Family Welfare will be administering polio drops to a target of 2.46 lakh eligible children from 0-5 years throughout the State in 2,462 polio booths to be manned by 9,848 vaccinators and 492 supervisors along with vaccines and other logistics. Special focus will be given to the migrant population.

Department of Health & Family Welfare State Immunization Officer, Dr. M. Kire informed in après release that during the 1st round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization on January 19, 2014, a total of 224941 children were vaccinated all over Nagaland.

“This programme is our nation’s contribution to the global effort of eradicating polio disease from the world,” he added. The Department appealed to all people, agencies (government and non- government, including the security forces and police), organizations, especially community leaders, parents of children below 5 years to come forward and ensure that all eligible children receive the “two drops of life” (Polio drops) during the 2nd phase on February 23.

Kohima CMO informs

The second round of IPPI (Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization) for all Children 0 to 5 years will be held on February 23 followed by house-to-house on February 24 and 25. Therefore, Kohima CMO in a press release has requested all parents, community leaders, women representative, youth representative and church leaders of all villages and colonies under Kohima district to mobilize children to avail Polio Vaccine at the nearest Polio Booth.
