With the official announcement of a ‘special financial package’ to stranded citizens presently outside Nagaland by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio  on April 20, the portal created for serving the same has been ‘overwhelmed’ by response.

 

The portal ‘iamstranded.nagaland.gov.increated to enable such assistance was visibly slower, if not inaccessible, on Monday after Rio’s announcement on Twitter.

 

Thereafter, many took to social media to report the same on Monday evening while enquires were also made to this newspaper’s office regarding the issue.

 

When The Morung Express visited the portal before April 20, it was accessible at one go. However, a visit after the announcement, the site resulted in either ‘very slow’ or no inaccessibility.

 

When contacted, the Advisor IT Science & Technology and NRE, Government of Nagaland, Mmhonlumo Kikon, on Tuesday informed that the response after the announcement was overwhelming.

 

“Due to the overwhelming response with over 70,000 hits since yesterday, the iamstranded.nagaland.gov.in portal is facing a slack,” the Advisor told The Morung Express.

 

He however informed that “the capacities of the servers are being enhanced with allocation of higher system resources and bandwidth.”

 

“Please bear with us while we do our best to serve you,” he urged.

 

On Tuesday night, the portal accessibility was much better than the previous day and the links could be accessed without much trouble.

 

A notification on the portal also informed that the “site may be unavailable due to maintenance between 4-5PM daily.”

 

It must be noted here that the special package for ‘distressed or stranded citizens’ outside Nagaland included a sum of Rs 3000 for stranded students, Rs 4000 for stranded working persons or professional and Rs 20000 for patients outside Nagaland.

 

“Daily wage earners in Nagaland will be provided essential commodities package through district administration,” as per an update on Nagaland’s COVID-19 Dashboard.

 

Action against fraudulent applications 

Meanwhile, a disclaimer on the portal informed that while platform was created for assistance, the applicants would be verified and cautioned against fraudulent applications.    

 

“We would like to hear your concerns and provide help and assistance where possible. The genuinity of the request will be verified and necessary help will be extended” at the earliest, it said.

 

 “Please note that giving false information or any fraudulent practices will be dealt under relevant sections of Law,” it added.

 

Who Can Apply?

Citizens of Nagaland who are presently outside the state as a student, working professional or patients facing hardship because of nationwide lockdown.

 

How to avail the fund:

·         Visit  the website iamstranded.nagaland.gov.in’

·         Submits forms on link provided

·         State Control Room will sort out application  and verify from respective Students’ Union/Nagaland House/Fellowship

·         Financial assistance would be send to bank account of verified applicants

·         Address (Present & Permanent)
