DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 17 (MExN): The Public Action Committee (PAC) under the aegis of Naga Council Dimapur held a meeting on October 16 with Dimapur Urban Colonies Chairmen’s Federation (DUCCF) and Dimapur District Village Council Chairman’s Association (DDVCCA) and the Dimapur Police Commissionarate officers.
The sole purpose of the meeting was to briefly highlight the activities undertaken by PAC so far in tackling illegal collection of money in Dimapur and the need and importance of community policing, Media Cell, PAC-NCD stated in a press release on Thursday.
Leaders from both the federation and association shared problems as well as experiences in abetting social evils in the society.
It deliberated that it is important and necessary to adopt ways and means to support and help police while adding that police alone cannot solve bad elements as there are numerous unreported cases of social evils taking place and unless community participate police alone cannot contain the menace.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) from the Commissionarate office shared the limited strength of the police in the city; nevertheless, tirelessly working to their best. He also shared the importance of community oriented policing scheme (COPS) implemented elsewhere and that the police and community should work together to prevent crime to happen by maintaining good communication with one another.
He also shared about the ‘Sunset Policing’ and ‘Neighborhood Watch,’ where community play vital role but also cautioned that the public should never take law into their own hands.
Telecommunications and technology have advanced so much that we should use it to our benefit by being in close conduct with one another, he said. By adopting good community policing system and active participation of community, we can make our environment safe and deter criminals, he added.
The Officer in Charge, West Police Station also shared on some important IPCs and CRPCs.
The PAC meanwhile sought the support and participation of the two important civil organizations and suggested that implementing community policing can be contemplated on in the near future. Further the Convener-PAC informed that more meetings shall be convened to create between awareness on social responsibilities. He also informed that meeting with GBs will be held soon.
