Padma Shri Piyongtemjen Jamir honoured for popularizing Hindi in Nagaland

Padma Shri awardee Piyongtemjen Jamir being felicitated during the concluding day of Hindi week held by ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema.

Dimapur, September 22 (MExN): ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema felicitated Padma Shri Piyong Temjen Jamir, Director, Rastra Bhasa Hindi Teaching Institute, Dimapur on the concluding day of a week-long Hindi week.

A plaque was presented to Jamir for being conferred with Padma Shri award 2018 in the field of literature and education for his outstanding contribution in the popularization of Hindi in Nagaland.  

Speaking on the occasion, Jamir who was the chief guest said that in spite of being a national language, Hindi was not being adopted well throughout the country and most of the textbook in higher education were not in Hindi. He further added that Hindi is not only the national language “but also a pride for us and a nation cannot progress unless its language progresses.” He hoped that Hindi will serve as a linking-language to the tribes of Nagaland and will help unite the Nagas.  

Various competitive programmes such as essay writing, hindi reading, extempore, antakshari competition, and dictation were organized. The staff of ICAR-NRC on Mithun and School children participated in the programme and winners were awarded.   Other dignitaries present were Walen Jamir, Principal, Rashtra Bhasha Hindi Teaching Institute, Dimapur and Khrutsulu Dozo, PGT (Hindi), GHSS, Dimapur.   Guest of Honour Walen Jamir stressed upon the importance of hindi in holding all the states, religion and tribes together. He also shared about the origin of Hindi and its significance in national perspective.  

Special guest of the function Khrutsulu Dozo motivated the audience to use Hindi in our day to day life.  

Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun added that Hindi was not only the third most spoken language in the world but was now also being used in developing artificial intelligence. He motivated the staff members to use Hindi as much as possible such as to issue any office order in bilingual version (both English and Hindi), use of bilingual office seal, tender inquiry etc.

The event was organized by the in-charge Hindi Cell Dr. Saroj Toppo, Principal Scientist and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. M. H. Khan, Principal scientist, ICAR-NRC on Mithun.
