Painting competition, art exhibition marks World Art Day in Mokokchung

In commemoration of World Art Day, Creative Hearts in collaboration with Art and Photography Club of Jubilee Memorial College, Mokokchung organised a painting competition and art exhibition cum sale from various homegrown artists from Mokokchung at JMC on April 15.

Dr Imtiwati Jamir, Principal, JMC in his address during the prize distribution ceremony said that art is more than beauty. He said that art is demonstrated through literature, painting etc and that art lives on even after an artist dies.

He also said that art should be promoted and appreciated as the New Education policy also emphasizes on art and appreciation as part of the curriculum and therefore more importance should be given to art.

He went on to say that art is about creating new knowledge that allows a society to progress, and we must therefore produce new knowledge.  A total of 48 individuals participated in the painting competition which was open to three categories of artists:  Category I -Class 5 to Class 8, Category II - Class 9 to 12 and Category III -Open Category (College students and Age 19 & above).

The top three winners in all the categories won win cash prizes, including a certificate and top winners from Category I and II also won free admission to Creative Hearts Summer Art Camp tentatively to be held in June, 2023.
