Painting competition promotes energy conservation

Our Correspondent Kohima | November 9   A state level painting competition on energy conservation under National Campaign on energy conservation-2016 of Ministry of Power, Government of India in collaboration with Nagaland State Designated Agency, Department of Power Nagaland and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation was held here today. The theme for the competition includes “Saving energy is generating energy,” “For better tomorrow, save energy” and “Save energy, get wealthy.”   Gracing the prize distribution ceremony, Commissioner & Secretary for School Education and SCERT FP Solo called upon all concerned to put a collective responsibility towards conservation of energy and environment. Stressing on the need to plant more trees, he said we must regenerate forest to ensure peaceful habitation of wild animals and birds.   He said unless we preserve the wild animals and birds today, the future generation would not see it. He also told the school children not to use this platform for the sake of the competition only but try to put into practice. “We need to do something and mitigate the climate change,” he said adding that climate change is real now and knocking at our door.   SDEA Chief Electrical Inspector I.V. Chishi said unless we do away with random use of energy our future is very bleak. He also said unless preventive measure is taken today it will be too late. The competitors through their sketch highlighted the need to reduce burning of firewood to preserve forest and environment and also encouraged the people to use LED bulb and solar energy. It also expressed its concern over the random use of energy at home and call for reducing the use of electronic devices.   The winners are as follows: CATEGORY A - Ist: Micheal Yeptho- St. Mary’s HSS Dimapur; 2nd: Olivile H. Yepthomi-Holy Cross HSS Dimapur; 3rd- Touzolu Rhakho-Livingstone Foundation HSS Dimapur.   CATEGORY ‘B’- Ist: Mathurengabou Poumai- JNV Jakukie, Kohima; 2nd- Imnatoudong Longkumer-El Shaddai Academy, Dimapur; 3rd: Dzüzeho Soleho-Azedon School Kohima.
