Pandemic

Kohima

This dreaded Pandemic, also a word which I thought I would find only in the Dictionary, is here to stay. Lockdown 3.0 is almost over. Although I live in the heart of the noise and dust of Kohima town, this morning I woke up to the sound of the happy forest, birds of myriad species chirping, a cool breeze blowing and the early morning gentle sunrays streaming in from the windows, the promise of a beautiful day. I confess, for a few seconds, I was uncertain. I wondered if I was in the abode of the angels the so called : better place. Here is the irony. Humans are dying but the earth is healing they say.

The silent but virulent virus has thrown the universe into chaos. The best minds in the world are at loggerheads. 1. Wear mask vs. not an absolute necessity. 2. Sanitize vs. Bacterial flora [micro biota] is our friend, it strengthens the immune system. 3. Lockdown/isolation vs. Herd immunity. Closer home too, there is a constant battle of opinions. Some people find a problem in every solution. Heroes and villains are emerging from unexpected quarters. We must end the petty battles lest we lose the war against the deadly virus.

Every other day, news of the discovery of a probable vaccine is being aired. But one fact remains unchanged, the loss of lives around the world.

For an uninitiated person, like me, I believe only in what I can understand. The strategic offensive principle of war states that the “best defense is a good offense”, but in the war against Covid 19, the best offense could be a good defense. So, put on your best armor, boost your immune system and make your body inhospitable to the virus. So that, when it comes floating around hoping to latch on to your cells, you may give its spikes a Mary Kom punch. Once again, it is the survival of the fittest.

After the frenzied Lockdown causing immense inhuman distress the authorities have found the magic solution, “learn to live with the virus” is their mantra. Can someone please inform the virus that we wish to co-exist and live in peace and harmony?

Folks! This is where we have landed. Back to square one.
