 
                          
                  
Kohima, July 29 (MExN): The three-day ‘induction training of panel lawyers on lawyering skills’ organised by Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) under the Department of Justice and Law concluded at State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Kohima on July 29.
Speaking on welfare schemes, T Merang Aier, Director of Social Welfare Department highlighted on women and child welfare programmes, welfare programmes for senior citizens, welfare for persons with disabilities, and grant-in-aid programmes.
He expounded on national social assistance programmes such as Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS), Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS), Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS), and National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS).
Aier informed that in Nagaland, a total of 48 NGOs are being provided grant-in-aid presently, while there are Women Commission, Social Welfare Board, Child Right, Child Protection, Disability Commission, Schemes under MoSJE and MoTA, according to a press release from NSLSA. He informed those in need of disability appliances could avail the same at the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), Dimapur.
Apprising on the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), the Director urged the Panel Lawyers to work with the community and sensitize on the schemes available for the common people under the Department of Social Welfare. He also asked the Panel Lawyers to encourage the Anganwadi workers in their respective district to render service to the masses.
Earlier, Ashu Theyo, Legal Aid Counsel-cum-Trainer, NSLSA spoke on Basic Knowledge in Criminal Law (Criminal Jurisprudence on Bail, Plea Bargaining and Rights of an arrested person).
Joshua Sheqi, Legal Aid Counsel-cum-Trainer, NSLSA spoke on Lawyering Skill- Criminal (Drafting, Witness Examination and Arguments), Tongpang L Jamir, Master Trainer, NSLSA spoke on Law of Persons with Disabilities (Success stories related to justice delivered to the disabled), and Cheliam Khiamniungan, Master Trainer, NSLSA spoke on Various Legislations- Environmental laws / COTPA/ Food Security Act/ Senior citizens etc. Panel Lawyers from each district shared “Best Practice”.
On the same day, Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) conducted an essay competition for college students on the topic of Fundamental Rights.
