• Pipeline damaged since November 2024
• Village sets July 31 deadline on PMGSY works
Wokha, May 18 (MExN): Pangti village in Wokha district is spending more than Rs 30,000 daily on drinking water after its main water pipeline was damaged nearly 18 months ago, prompting the village authorities to issue an ultimatum to contractor M/S LPSS Infra, Kohima, to complete pending PMGSY road works and restore the water supply by July 31, 2026.
In a press release, the Pangti Village GBs and the Action Committee for PMGSY said the ultimatum followed a general meeting held on April 21 over the prolonged delay in the PMGSY Phase-III T-01 Mangmetong to Doyang road project and the continuing disruption of the village water supply.
According to the release, the main pipeline was damaged on November 12, 2024, leaving the village dependent on purchased water, particularly during the lean season between November and April.
It stated that residents are collectively spending over Rs 30,000 every day to secure drinking water.
The village authorities also highlighted delays in the road project, stating that several works including formation cutting, culverts, retaining walls, breast walls and side drains remain incomplete. The unfinished works are reportedly affecting vehicular movement during the rainy season.
“Basic connectivity and drinking water cannot be delayed any further,” the press release stated, adding that villagers have endured hardship for the past 18 months due to the unresolved issues.
The village authorities further stated that all construction works would be regularly monitored to ensure quality standards are maintained. They warned that failure to restore the water supply and complete the pending road works within the stipulated deadline could invite further action from the village.
