Aiborlang Nongsiej Bosco B.Ed College, Dimapur There is a famous saying ‘Everybody’s responsibility is nobody’s responsibility’. On the 17 of July 2018 I had written an article on the topic ‘When will Half Nagarjan Bridge finish? In which I requested the authority to faster the construction of the new bridge for the benefit of the people and in order to reduce traffic jam in the town. However, this construction of the new bridge has turned from bad to worse. Personally, I appreciate the initiative of the state government and the PWD department for constructing new bridge, since the bridge was in danger. On the other hand, I do not appreciate the slowness in constructing this new bridge. Therefore, as concerned citizen of Dimapur, it is our right to inquire the reality of why the construction of new bridge takes such a long time. In fact, the bridge was in danger for the last two years and since then the construction of new bridge began, however it appears as just a work of half a year. It is very sad that in spite of the crack on the road at the beginning of the bridge that happened in the last few months yet the construction of the new bridge has no different, there is no sign of speeding up the building of new bridge.In fact, there are times when we see not even a single worker in it. Thus, it sounds like a paradox to many of us who daily passing through that particular bridge. It is very shameful to see that when the bridge is in great danger but several times, not even a single worker is seen in building up the new bridge. Let us not forget that the Dimapur traffic police had twice blocked that bridge due to the danger that it might cause to the people. Nevertheless, the bridge is so important that is has caused lots of problems to the people and for no option they have to allow the light vehicles to continue plyingon that bridge with few traffic police men employ for the smooth running of vehicles in the bridge. Personally, am not interested in politic nor belong to any party, but for the interest of the people and for the benefit of the people I just want to remind the state government to take up this matter of constructing the new bridge seriously. We want to see change as you have promised during the last state election.It is shameful to the state government and to the PWD department for twice blocking the bridge due to its danger, while not fulfilling the duty in building up the new bridge as fast as possible. The bridge is at risk to many vehicles and people who use that particular bridge. In my opinion, the bridge itself has given us several warnings to faster the construction of the new bridge, yet sad to say that it is like a paradox because for when the bridge is in serious danger, hardly any worker sometime is seen in the bridge. Therefore, it is high time to complete the new bridge and I strongly urge the state government to faster the construction of this new bridge, let us not wait for the bridge to collapse completely and destroy the innocent lives. We must not forget that many students use this bridge to go to school. I remember that when the bridge was blocked for twice, students from Greenwood School, Salesian College, Bosco Bed College, and students from other institutions suffered a lot. They have to go through a long way in order to reach the school and college. Hence, the slowness in building up the new bridge is also depriving the rights of the students. Just because of the complete block of the bridge in those days several students did not go to school and sometime coming late to class. When asked about the reason, why they are late for class, they confidently said, because of the bridge. As a result, before it is too late I urge the concerned authority to look into the matter seriously for the benefit of the students, the people and the society at large.
