Parties appoint Whips, TR recognized as opp leader

DIMAPUR, MARCH 15 (MExN): With a new ruling government under the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) at place in Nagaland state, the major political parties in the state have gone about structuring their power set ups, specifically choosing their whips.

Details of various appointments made by the several parties were informed today in a press statement from the Directorate of Information and Public Relations.  

The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has appointed CM Chang as its Chief Whip. It may be noted that CM Chang is also a member of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s cabinet, holding the ministerial berth for Forest, Environment & Climate Change; and Parliamentary Affairs. He was appointed NDPP Chief Whip on March 10.  

PDA alliance partner, the National People’s Party (NPP) has appointed Imnatiba as its Chief Whip. He was appointed Chief Whip by the NPP, Nagaland unit President Ato Yepthomi on March 8.  

Meanwhile, President the Nagaland State Unit of the BJP, Visasolie Lhoungu has appointed P Paiwang Konyak as its Chief Whip. It may be noted that Konyak is also Minister for Transport, Civil Aviation and Railways; and Land Resource.  

The DIPR further informed that Er Vikho-o Yhoshu, who was elected as the Speaker of the Thirteenth Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) under Article 178 of the Constitution of India, assumed office with effect from the forenoon on Monday, March 13.  

With regard to the opposition, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) has recognized former Chief Minister, TR Zeliang as leader of the opposition with effect from the afternoon of March 13 in pursuance of Section 2(a) of the Salary and Allowances of the Leader of Opposition in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Act 1992.
