Under the theme “Reel Reflection: Navigating New Realms,” the third edition of the three-day Patkai Campus Film Festival 3.0 premiered today at the Bundrock Chapel Auditorium, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), with P James Swu, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Medziphema, as the guest of honour.

The annual event of the Department of Mass Communication at PCC (A) has lined up an eclectic mix of films and documentaries for three days of reflection on films concerning the North-East Region.

At the inaugural programme, Festival Director Khakhuli Chishi noted that the theme chosen for this year's edition, “Reel Reflections: Navigating New Realms,” aims at revisiting the roles of films in reflecting upon new socio-cultural and political dynamics in society.

In his words of encouragement, PCC Principal, Dr Thepfüvilie Pierü appreciated the department for enriching the campus community life with the annual event. Among others, he noted that there are many doors of opportunities self-confidence is the key to open these doors.

The festival directors Khakhuli Chishi and Kesin Tep along with special guest James Swu, Additional Deputy Commissioner Medziphema and PCC Principal Dr ThepfüviliePierü on the inaugural day the 3-day Day Patkai Campus Film Festival 3 on November 8.

Speaking on the occasion, Swu reminisced about his university days when he, along with some friends, became 'accidental' special invitees of a film festival in Pune in the company of Film Director Mahesh Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Recollecting Bhatt's message that day, the ADC noted that there is always an underlying message behind any film or motion picture and encouraged the gathering to use the opportunity provided by the festival to learn something.

“Please don't just watch, but use your mental faculties to learn,” he added, further noting that watching a movie is also an art.
He also shared how entertainment has transformed from being limited to multi-medium, ranging from cable to OTT (over-the-top), and how outlook and preferences are changing.

The Department of Mass Communication is collaborating with the Film and Culture Society of Northeast and Arunachal Film Collective for a line-up of exhibitions during the three-day festival, while the Nagaland Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Film Association Nagaland, and Nagaland State Aid's Control also shared their films.

Yapangnaro Longkumer, a Film Maker and General Secretary of the Film Association of Nagaland, also graced the inaugural event as special guest.

The prominent film featured on the first day was 'Angh,' a 2021 Naga short film directed, written, and co-produced by Theja Rio, focusing on a village chief and his son and how they navigate their way through changing social realities around them.
The director of the movie, Theja, consented for the movie to be screened for free, as informed by Kesin Tep, another Festival Director.

Dreamz Unlimited helped in the promotion of the event, while other sponsors of the festival are Disong Designs, Spicy Corner, Baskin Robbins, Haruki, Juni Book Café, House of Asia, Hotel Crown, TOL Enterprise, Glamazon Beauty Salon, Juro Coffee, 27Lueur, Sports Gears, Rehti Photography, and Patkai HSS.

During the three-day festival, spearheaded by the third-year students of the department as part of their coursework, works by filmmakers from the region, students' films, and other educational motion pictures are part of the festival.

Some of the featured films include “Portrait of God,” “Big Ears,” “Safarnama,” “Social Media: A Traphouse,” “The Silent Child,” “The Neighbors’ Window,” and so on.
