Chümoukedima, February 26 (MExN): The two-day ‘Creative Arts Festival’ of Patkai Christian College got underway on February 26. The second edition of the event, themed “Confluence: Art and Athletics,” aims to integrate artistic expression with athletic spirit to foster holistic development among students, stated an update received here.

The festival was formally inaugurated by B Henok Buchem, NCS, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, an alumnus of the 1998 batch of the college. In his address, he reflected on his student life at the institution and shared how his experiences shaped his personal values, discipline, and professional journey.

Buchem outlined three foundational principles for students: Fear the Lord, Obedience, and Working with determination. He urged students not to waste their time on pursuits that do not add value to their lives and highlighted the competitive nature of the world beyond the campus. Emphasizing self-awareness and purpose, he encouraged students to align their talents with their interests, continuously sharpen their skills, and remain committed and consistent in their chosen professions.

He further called upon students to “dare to be different” in a world increasingly marked by negativity and unhealthy influences, encouraging them to uphold strong values and moral integrity.

Addressing the alumni community, he urged them to remain influential contributors to society and to continue strengthening and upholding the legacy of the institution beyond the campus.

During the day, various competitions were held among the five houses: Tigris, Pishon, Euphrates, Jordan, and Gihon. The quiz competition, organised under five thematic areas, Historical legacy of Northeast India, Sports, Politics, Literature, and Popular culture, saw Pishon and Euphrates tied for first place. Following a tie-breaker round, Team Pishon emerged as the winner.

Other events held on day one included group song, extempore speech, debate, art under the theme “A World Reimagined,” short story writing themed “On the night you decide God has forgotten you, a stranger knocks on your door,” and essay writing themed “A Breeding Ground for Innovation or a Creativity Trap?” The results for the essay competition will be announced on February 27.

The day’s programme concluded with a closing prayer led by Baithung, Prayer Secretary, EU. The festival will continue on February 27, featuring competitions such as poetry slam, group dance, mad ads, group song finale, fashion designing, and calligraphy, followed by the closing ceremony.

The festival is supported by sponsors including Flora Events, Spicy Corner, and Juseu.
