Chümoukedima, August 30 (MExN): Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) commemorated its 52nd Foundation Day on August 28 at the Bundrock Chapel Auditorium, celebrating more than five decades of Christian education and reaffirming its commitment to faith, truth, service and academic excellence.
The programme began with an opening prayer by Rev Dr Vichiükho Ngukha, Chaplain, followed by the college anthem, “Shine on, O Patkai”. Principal Dr Thepfuvilie Pieri delivered the welcome address.
The programme featured a musical presentation by MSSM and “Pages from Patkai Days”, presented by Keren Sümi (Kavi) of the 2006-09 batch. Scripture readings and a special gift presentation to donor villages by the Board of Trustees were also held in recognition of their contributions and longstanding association with the institution.
Rev Zhabu Terhuja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, delivered the Foundation Day address, reflecting on the college’s identity and mission as a Christian institution.
Referring to Ephesians 4:13, Terhuja spoke about the college’s vision of continual spiritual growth and said the identity of a Christian institution is reflected not merely in its name or affiliation but through the lives, character and actions of its community.
He urged students, faculty and staff to embody their faith in their daily lives, calling on the Patkai community to “live aloud the Christ who lives in you”.
Reflecting on the college motto, “Light and Truth”, Terhuja cited Ephesians 5:8 and encouraged the community to demonstrate a distinct Christian character rather than simply conforming to societal expectations.
He compared Christians to the moon, which reflects the sun’s light rather than generating its own, saying Christians too are called to reflect Christ’s light to others through their words, conduct and lives.
Using the example of a candle, which illuminates by consuming itself, Terhuja further emphasised that serving others may require individuals to set aside personal interests and make sacrifices for the greater good.
