Patkai, July 30 (MExN): A one-day skill enhancement workshop organised by the Department of Education, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) marked the third anniversary of India's National Education Policy (NEP) on July 29 at its college premise.
Neilevono Vupru, Dean of Social Science while informing the students about the workshop urged the students to learn from the resource persons and make the best out of the shared time.
Dr Dakter Esse, HOD, Mass Communication, PCC in her exhortation said, ‘The NEP-2020 underlines the importance of skills to address the issue of unemployment’, and lamented how unemployment has become a challenge not just for the government but also educational institutions.
To this end Dr Esse stressed on the need for integrating academic and practise beyond the confines of the classroom.
Dr Esse also informed that the skill based learning that educational institutes guided under NEP 2020 are encouraging is to emphasise on developing practical skills and competencies that applies to real work situation.
Dr. Esse speaking on the importance of holistic learning said skill enhancement workshops will make students ready for employability indicating that it would encourage entrepreneurship by way of acquiring skills and capitalising on it.
She also mentioned about various digital platforms such as Local Nation, Runway India, Amazon etc that provide the spaces for creators/artists/handicraft enthusiasts to get into the business of marketing one’s good.
The workshop for the day was conducted on ‘Embroidery’ and ‘Dao making’. The students were given first hand training on the basics of stitching and dao making.
Assistant Professor, Dept of Education, Khriesalie Khro introduced the resource persons Dr Dakter Esse and Vevoyi to the gathering of more than 60 students and faculties.
The assistant professor informed that the objective of the workshop is to equip the students with skills that can help them understand the importance of being self reliant.
